Lenten Mass schedule for CBD churches announced

Catholic churches in the Central Business District of the Archdiocese of New Orleans will celebrate Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, and Lenten Masses as follows:

St. Louis Cathedral will offer Masses at 12:05 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, with ashes distributed at both Masses following the homily. Archbishop Gregory Aymond will preside at the 12:05 p.m. Mass.

Weekend Masses during Lent will include the 5 p.m. Vigil on Saturdays and 9 and 11 a.m. Masses on Sundays. Daily Mass will be celebrated Monday through Friday at 12:05 p.m., followed by Stations of the Cross on Fridays. Good Friday Stations will be led by Archbishop Emeritus Alfred C. Hughes at noon, followed by reconciliation until 2 p.m. Also, the sacrament of reconciliation will be available Monday through Friday from 11:30 to 11:50 a.m., with extended times on March 7, 14 and 21 from 10:45-11:50 a.m. and every Saturday from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m.

Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Baronne St., Masses on Ash Wednesday will be at 7:30 a.m., noon, 4:15 and 5:30 p.m., with confessions heard from 11 a.m. to noon; 3:15-4:15 p.m. Ashes will be distributed at each Mass. Masses Monday through Friday during Lent will be at 7:30 a.m. and noon, and Saturday at 8 a.m. Weekend schedule as usual (4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m.; and 7:30 p.m.) Way of the Cross will follow the noon Mass on Fridays. Eucharistic adoration is on Sundays at 7 p.m. and First Fridays from 8-11:45 a.m. Confessions are heard Monday through Friday from 11 to 11:50 a.m., Saturdays from 3:15 to 3:50 p.m., and Sundays from 7 to 7:25 p.m.

Due to Mardi Gras festivities, the Mass/confession schedule has been modified as follows: Feb. 10, no confessions or 4 p.m. Mass; Feb. 11, no evening confessions, benediction, or 7:30 p.m. Mass; Feb. 12, 7:30 a.m. Mass followed by confessions, but no noon Mass or confessions; and Feb. 13, church closed.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 411 N. Rampart St., will offer Masses on Ash Wednesday at 7 a.m., noon, 4 and 6 p.m., with distribution of ashes at each Mass. Daily Masses during Lent will be Monday through Friday at 7 a.m. and noon, and Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Weekend Masses are Saturday vigil Mass at 4 p.m. and Sundays at 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.; 1:30 p.m. (Spanish) and 6 p.m. Confessions will be heard each Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Way of the Cross will be recited on Fridays at 11:30 a.m.

St. Patrick Church, 724 Camp St., will have Masses on Ash Wednesday with distribution of ashes at 11 and 11:45 a.m., and 12:30 and 5:30 p.m., with confessions before all Masses. During Lent, weekday Masses will be at 11:30 a.m. and noon. Confessions will be heard from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Way of the Cross will be recited on Fridays following the noon Mass. On First Friday, March 2, rosary and eucharistic adoration will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by 7 p.m. Mass.

St. John the Baptist Church, 1139 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., will have its vigil Mass on Saturdays at 4 p.m.

St. Joseph Church, 1802 Tulane Ave.: Ash Wednesday Masses at noon and 6:30 p.m., with distribution of ashes. Masses during Lent, Monday through Friday, will be at 12:15 p.m. with confessions on Wednesdays and Fridays 30 minutes before Mass. Sunday Masses are celebrated at 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
