Seniors Aysia Wade, Bailey Barnes, Deja Hansell, Trinity Velazquez and Sara Hurst of Gretna view rare books within the Louisiana Law Library’s collection.
Academy of Our Lady’s Law & Civil Leadership Internship Class visited the Louisiana Supreme Court on multiple occasions this school year. Students observed oral arguments in three separate cases and were acknowledged by Chief Justice Bernette Johnson, who along with other justices, commended themfor taking an active interest in the law. Johnson encouraged them to pursue their dreams.
The class also had the opportunity to tour the courthouse, learning its history and resources available there. The girls were able to view the Women in Law exhibit in the court’s museum and examine rare books within the Louisiana Law Library’s collection. Students also viewed the earliest printings of Louisiana Laws while learning how Louisiana came to be the only US state to currently use the Civil Code.
