Charismatic Conference to feature Sister Briege

Order of St. Clare Sister Briege McKenna and Vincentian Father Kevin Scallon will be the featured speakers 

at annual Southern Regional Conference of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal March 31-April 2 at the Best Western Plus Landmark Hotel in Metairie.
The conference theme is “Current of Grace,” marking the golden jubilee of the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church. Pope Francis has referred to the Charismatic Renewal as “a current of grace in the church and for the church.”
Sister Briege and Father Scallon have exercised a ministry of evangelization and healing for almost 50 years. Sister Briege’s book, “Miracles Do Happen,” is a worldwide best-seller.
Patti Mansfield, archdiocesan liaison for the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, also will speak and minister.
Mans­field was present at the “Duquesne Weekend” retreat in 1967 that sparked the beginning of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Her golden jubilee book, “As By a New Pentecost,” will be available at the conference.
Also on the program are Deacon Larry and Andi Oney from the Archdiocese of New Orleans, who are dynamic teachers and authors.

Family attendance
There will be a family session April 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the newly renovated Copeland Tower on the 16th floor, with a panoramic view of the area. Conference attendees are encouraged to use the Landmark as their hotel for the conference.

The conference will begin March 31 at 7 p.m. and conclude on April 2 with 11 a.m. Mass. Everyone is welcome to attend the conference for a single session or for the entire weekend.
On March 31 at 3:30 p.m., there will be a pre-conference Mass of Intercession celebrated by Father Bill Henry of Greenville, Mississippi, with Deacon Oney as homilist.

The conference music will again be provided by Joyful Noise music ministry, led by Lynn Mondt. NoLoudRocks, a youth band led by Leslie Bertucci, will provide music for the Late Night Worship and Family Session.  Also, Sister Briege has gifted CCRNO with a large Divine Mercy Image from Poland that will be venerated on stage.

The opening session of the conference will include a welcome by Deacon Oney, a greeting by Archbishop Gregory Aymond and testimonies by Sister Briege and Father Scallon. At 10 p.m., Late Night Worship will begin in the ballroom, with praise and eucharistic adoration. Both adults and youth are invited to take part.

Father Scallon will celebrate Mass April 1 at 9 a.m., and Mansfield will share her testimony and lead prayer for a new coming of the Holy Spirit.

Workshops will be offered April 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. Deacon Oney and his wife Andi will speak on “Charismatic Gifts,” and Mansfield will talk about “Mary and the Holy Spirit.” Personal prayer ministry will follow.

The family session on April 1 will be devoted to talks and prayer to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, in accord with Pope Francis’ mandate to share the baptism in the Spirit with all in the church. Families with young children, teens and young adults are invited to take part.

Empowerment ministry
The Saturday night session will feature reflections by Father Scallon and Sister Briege and Empowerment Ministry led by Mansfield. It will be conclude with a mini-concert by Joyful Noise.

Sister Briege and Father Scallon will lead a talk and healing session April 2 at 9 a.m., followed by a eucharistic healing service, procession and benediction.

Father Scallon will be the celebrant and homilist at the concluding 11 a.m. Mass.

Seating is limited, and early registration is encouraged.  Discounts are available for pre-registration. No pre-registration is needed for single sessions or the Saturday afternoon family session.

All priests, religious brothers and sisters, deacons and their families are invited to attend the conference at no charge, but pre-registration is requested.

The fee schedule is as follows: individual adult $60 ($70 on site); married couple $80 ($90 on site); family same household $90 ($100 on site); single sessions $25 on site; youth participation to age 30, apart from family registration, only $20; All Day Saturday $50.
