The 2016 Clarion Herald Elite Volleyball Team

Mount Carmel has always been blessed with outstanding individual talent on its athletic teams, and in particular, its volleyball team.
Two years ago, Katie Kampen, now a sophomore at LSU, was queen of the local high school nets.

In 2015 it was another Cub, Kristen Nuss, who earned the honor as the Outstanding Player in Division I. She, too, is at LSU playing sand volleyball.

The baton has now been passed to the third Mount Carmel player, who is among the rising stars of the court.

Ellie Holzman is just a sophomore, but she possesses the savvy of a young Kampen and the hitting tenacity of a seasoned Nuss. She is the Player of the Year on the Clarion Herald’s Elite Volleyball team.

Holzman is joined by three repeat selectees who were sophomores when they first appeared on the team. Now juniors, Camile Dedeaux of Pope John Paul II, Hailey Cabeceiras of Archbishop Hannan and Ursuline Academy’s Macie Grubbs had equally successful campaigns as team leaders.

Coaches of the Year are Rebekka Bonnaffee, who led a young Hannan squad to a 34-11 record, and April Hagadone, the veteran mentor of Division I champion Mount Carmel. In winning their 12th state title, Hagadone’s Cubs finished the season with a 38-11 record.
