Archdiocese celebrates Black Saints

Before processing into Corpus Christi-Epiphany Church for the Nov. 9 Black Saints Celebration, participants paraded from Hardin Park to announce their dedication to the fight against murder, violence and racism.

At the prayer service, Josephite Father Anthony Bozeman called on Black Catholics to embrace the lessons of their saintly ancestors, who not only persevered against racism and church bigotry, but took definitive action against them. “Our Black saints are our role models because they ‘walked it out’ and received a crown of glory!” Father Bozeman said. “We (also) have the ability to become saints, each and every one of us.” The annual celebration has been sponsored by the archdiocesan Office of Black Catholic Ministries since 1988.
