Sister Mary Veronica dies at 83

obit_sr_micelli    Dominican Sister of Peace Mary Veronica Miceli, a beloved history teacher for many years at St. Mary’s Dominican High School and professor of history at Dominican College, died March 12 at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center. She was 83 and in her 65th year of religious profession.
    Sister Mary Veronica was the daughter of the late Josephine Perino Miceli and Samuel A. Miceli Sr..
    Sister Mary Veronica earned a bachelor of arts in history from St. Mary’s Dominican College, a master’s degree in history from St. Louis University, and a doctorate in history from Tulane University.
    After professing her vows in 1948, Sister Mary Veronica taught at Louisiana elementary schools in Cottonport, Reserve, Bunkie and New Orleans before teaching at Dominican High School and Dominican College.
    After retirement, she dedicated herself to other ministries, including giving retreats and days of recollection across Louisiana, particularly at the Dominican Retreat House in Rosaryville and the Center of Jesus the Lord in New Orleans, acting as liaison to the Dominican Laity. She also served on the Archdiocesan Metropolitan Tribunal.
    Sister brought joyful exuberance to every aspect of her life and had a special loving devotion to the Blessed Mother.
    She is survived by her brother, Samuel A. Miceli Jr., and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews.
    A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated by Jesuit Father Leo A. Nicolls on March 18, followed by interment in Metairie Cemetery.
