The old saying, “There’s something for everyone,” has never been more appropriate than in describing the wide range of summer camp offerings at Mount Carmel Academy.
Mount Carmel offers an array of specialized activities for girls from second through ninth grades, mostly broken down into one-week sessions so that campers can test out their preferences with ease.
Coordinated by longtime director Denna Cheramie, Mount Carmel’s Summer Camps 2012 runs from June 4-29, with morning sessions from 9 a.m. until noon and afternoon sessions from 1 to 4 p.m. The camps are even age-specific: junior camps are for those girls entering second through fifth grade, and specialty camps are for those entering fifth through ninth grade.
For younger campers, there are seven junior camp offerings: Art Exploration, Carmelette Pirouettes, Cub Cheer Camp, Fun and Fitness for Youth, Junior Cub Camp, Multimedia Madness and Summer in the Spotlight I theater camp.
The camp offerings for older campers include 25 separate activities and break down into three major categories: Academic and Life Skills; Arts and Theatre; and Athletics, Cheer and Dance camps.
The following are the camps for older girls.
Academic and Life Skills Camps: A Beautiful Me; Adventures in Robotics; Computer Exploration; Cooking with Class; CSI-MCA; Cupcakes, Cookies and Cakes, Oh, My!; Exercising Your Math Mind; Leadership Lagniappe; Sew Fun 101; and Write Away.
Arts and Theatre Camps: Adventures in Digital Filmmaking; Art-Tastic!; Cub Crafts; Preserving Memories-Scrapbooking; Summer in the Spotlight II; and We “Heart” Art.
Athletics, Cheer and Dance Camps: Carmelettes Pirouettes, Cub Cheer, Dig It and Dig Deeper Volleyball; Fast Pitch Frenzy Softball; Fun and Fitness – The Games for Life; Hoop It Up; Soccer Camp; The Right Track; and You Can’t Dance Without Rhythm.
“Our wide variety of specialty camps appeals to the diverse interests of girls throughout the metro area,” Cheramie said. “We also are offering three new camps this year that we think are very exciting – Adventures in Robotics, Leadership Lagniappe and Cupcakes, Cookies and Cakes, Oh, My!”
Mount Carmel Summer Camp allows for flexible scheduling, with both morning and afternoon sessions available and childcare beginning at 8 a.m. Camp fees are $80 per child per session, and registration is $30 per child before May 4. Registration for the theater camp is $60 per child.
