St. Mary’s Dominican High School has summer fun covered for girls of all ages. Dominican offers four summer programs to meet the specific interests of just about any camper.
The youngest campers – girls who have completed first through fourth grades – can participate in Jumpin’ For Joy, which offers activities such as arts and crafts, cheerleading, games, “Bibleosity,” word games, music and dance. The camp will be held June 4-22, and the camp day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Older campers – those who have completed fourth through eighth grades – have even more options.
First, there is DominiCamp, which provides a wide range of activities such as jewelry-making, fun with Spanish, creative writing, dance, Math Mania, drama, sports, fitness, sciences, etiquette, arts and crafts, leadership development, computers and cooking. DominiCamp will run June 4-22, and the camp day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“The girls do six different activities in one day, and that allows them to have a lot of opportunities to interact with various activities,” said Meg Womble, DominiCamp director. “The activities are geared to all kinds of talents and interests. We’ve got activities such as a fun science exploration class, arts and crafts, cooking and etiquette.
Lunches are themed for fun
“Every day at lunch we have a daily theme and an activity. It’s not just, ‘Hey, it’s lunch hour; let’s eat.’ They can be playing bingo or doing karaoke or having a costume contest or a Western day where we see who can yodel the loudest.”
The schedule also can be arranged to allow a girl to participate in a sports camp in the morning and a special-interest camp or DominiCamp in the afternoon.
“That’s an even bigger scheduling bonus,” Womble said.
Dominican offers sports camps in softball (June 4-8), basketball (June 11-15), volleyball (June 18-22) and soccer (July 30-Aug. 1). Each sports camp will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The older campers also have a chance to participate in specialized camps from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. daily. Those camps include art (June 4-8), band (June 11-15) and drama (June 18-22). There is limited space for the specialized camps.
Before and after care is available.
