Local devotees of St. Kateri make Roman pilgrimage

Among the thousands of pilgrims trekking to Rome for the Oct. 21 canonization of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha – the first Native American saint – a 4-year-old from Metairie, dressed as a Mohawk princess, likely will be on her father’s shoulders in St. Peter’s Square trying to take in the super-sized and sanctified Mardi Gras parade.

Cory Howat named stewardship director

 The conversation came up naturally over breakfast one morning last week. Cory Howat, the new director of stewardship for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and his wife Molly were discussing ways they might be able to increase their gift-giving as a Catholic couple with two young children.
